Cabbagetown

Atlanta's artistic mill village

About Cabbagetown

Cabbagetown is one of Atlanta’s most distinctive neighborhoods, originally built as housing for workers at the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill in the late 1800s. The neighborhood’s name allegedly comes from the smell of cabbage cooking in the mill workers’ homes.

Today, Cabbagetown retains its working-class roots while attracting artists, musicians, and creative professionals drawn to its unique character. The neighborhood’s shotgun houses—narrow homes where you could supposedly fire a shotgun through the front door and out the back—are unlike anything else in Atlanta.

Real Estate in Cabbagetown

The Cabbagetown housing stock is almost entirely shotgun houses and small bungalows, many dating to the early 1900s. These homes have been gradually renovated over the decades, with prices reflecting their historic character and Beltline proximity.

The former Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill has been converted to Stacks Lofts, offering modern loft living within the neighborhood. Due to limited inventory and strong demand, homes in Cabbagetown tend to sell quickly.

Living in Cabbagetown

The Krog Street Tunnel, connecting Cabbagetown to Inman Park, features rotating street art and murals that draw visitors from across the city. Carroll Street serves as the neighborhood’s main corridor, with cafes, restaurants, and the annual Cabbagetown Chomp & Stomp chili cookoff and bluegrass festival.

The Beltline provides easy access to Krog Street Market, Inman Park, and Old Fourth Ward, making Cabbagetown well-connected despite its small, village-like feel.
